So, how go the New Year’s Resolutions?
I’m doing well with not spending. I’m busying myself with work and the kids.
I’m not a meditator (I’ve tried!) but I’ve been reading my Women of the Bible Devotional in the mornings before I start my day. Reading about strong women of faith helps me set my mindset for the day and keep my eyes what matters. I’ve also added in one of my favourite devotionals, Joyce Meyer’s Trusting God Day by Day: 365 Daily Devotions. I LOVE Joyce Meyer. Some people don’t like her because she unapologetically bought a jet, but having flown private on occasion in a former career, I do not begrudge her this one bit. Her book Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind tackles anxiety, doubt, worry, depression, negative thinking and other things I’ve struggled with for years. If you have loved the self-help aspect of New Age but found it’s left you a bit empty, I highly recommend this book as a baby-step towards a different kind of faith. (Also read Jen Hatmaker, because she’s all of the love, none of the judgement, and has it going on.)
No matter what you believe or where you are in your faith walk, a few moments of quiet contemplation can be so helpful in keeping you on track. I saw this pretty Zafu meditation pillow online and if I were not in a spending freeze, I’d be mighty tempted to get it. So many cushions have that hippy look and I love the clean lines of this one.
I’m drinking some water, although still not enough. I have pretty S’well bottles coming out my ears and still lack the discipline. My plants in the “drink more water” apps always die. I think the situation may be hopeless. Do you ever get stuck like this? Why can’t caffeine free Diet Coke be what everyone wants us to drink?
I’m fascinated by the wellness qualities of essential oils. I have a cheap and cheerful diffuser in which I diffuse essential oils, but if I didn’t I’d snap up this Auria Genie Ultrasonic as it is so pretty (I may be renovating a bathroom later this year and, clearly, I have marble on the brain!)
A good friend of mine trained as an aromatherapist and gives me great essential oil advice. I’ll share some of her tips on the blog this year!
What are you doing to make 2018 a year of health and happiness? Any tips to share?
