I’m a big fan of St. Galentine, who in the third century came up with the concept of Girls’ Night Out. Actually, I totally made that up, but given that Chaucer sort of made up Valentine’s Day, I figured I can take liberties as well.
I like the idea of Galentine’s Day. I don’t think the celebration of love on February 14th should be limited to romantic love. It’s a great time to celebrate everyone you love, including your best girlfriends.
Since today is Style Friday, I’ve compiled a little list of stylish gifts to celebrate your girlfriends starting at $12 Canadian.
I’m always looking for ethical companies that make pretty things. I love it in particular if they are run by Boss Babes. So you know, I’m going to love the Vancouver-based company, Brunette The Label. Founded by Creative Director, Miriam Alden, Brunette is the ultimate girl power brand.
I love their Babes Supporting Babes sweatshirt ($79) for the girls in your tribe who legitimately lift you up. (My definition of a real friend is someone who can laugh with you, cry with you, and be genuinely happy for you even if you get something they want!)
I’m sort of obsessed with their vegan leather moto jacket with the pink collar. At $265, the jacket is a little spendy for a gift, but they have lots of cute sweatshirts that are more budget-friendly.
The We Are All Babes sweatshirt ($79) is inspired.
One of my favourite places to find cheap and cheerful gifts is Indigo Books, which is more a curated lifestyle store than simple bookstore.
And good news, because this weekend, you can take 15% Off Regular Priced Home Decor, Style & More at Indigo.ca! This Weekend, Online Only. Enter Promo Code: WELLNESS15. (Excludes Books & Electronics and sale items.)
I love Herbivore products. Herbivore’s Brighten Mask is a winner winner chicken dinner that I’ll review soon on a Beauty Tuesday.
I love this Topanga Cross Body Bag, on sale for $26 (not on extra sale.)
How cute is this UR My BFF round pouch for $12? (Not on extra sale.)
I’m always looking to find beautiful, ethically-made items. I’m impressed with the philosophy behind AUrate, a New York based jewelry company that promises “durable materials, transparent pricing, sustainable production, and tangible giving.” The company limits the markup usually found with fine jewelry so prices start at $25 for a gold ball stud earring ($50 for the pair.) They have so many great earring options to choose.
In addition to using ethically-sourced materials and labour, AUrate, in partnership with Mastery Charter, has given thousands of books to students and schools. I love their commitment to giving back. You can read more about the powerhouse founders in this article in Forbes. I love supporting strong, women-founded businesses.
My favourite pieces are the rose gold stackable rings in 14K gold ($50US.)
I love the inverse ring in gold vermeil ($100US.)
The Flower Earring Back Small in gold vermeil are gorgeous and I think they are a bargain at $150US for the pair. Look at all of that detail!
Do you celebrate Galentine’s Day or do you reserve February 14th for romantic love?
