As a freelancer, it’s critical to stay on top of things since there is no boss telling you what to do. There are lots of great apps out there – and I’ve tried many – but ultimately I’ve always relied on paper to keep me organized. I’ve used my Filofax since the late 1980s (not the same one obviously!) In fact, I use a two Filofax system.
One is my personal sized Louis Vuitton Agenda, which I use as a calendar only. Second is my A5 Filofax, which I use to run my life. It’s part planner, part information hub and I keep everything in there from a planning calendar, to the hex codes I most use, to gift cards, to a list of things we need for the house.
Each week, I take a look at my calendar to see what I have on for the week and then I start planning things out in my calendar. This can be anything from interviews I need to conduct for researched articles, to lunches I have on, to books I need to review.
Then, it’s just a matter of doing.
I always love to hear how other people keep themselves organized, particularly those in creative fields. It’s so easy to spend a day watching Long Island Medium, so it’s essential to keep on task.
